Honest Opinion

So, I’m transferring from Purdue to Texas State. The reason is i got depressed, and my grades slipped. I lost my scholarship and can’t afford to go back to Purdue (I’m an OOS). I applied to about 4 schools in state (Texas), but got trouble from 3 out of the 4. One lost my transcript, one still hasn’t determined my SAP, and another one automatically has me on academic probation with little financial aid. With that aside, I want to go to medical school. How bad will it look if it shows that I transferred from a high ranked university to an unranked one?

Medical schools look primarily at your overall academic qualifications and your MCAT scores. The reality is that if you were on probation, you have a big hill to climb no matter where you finish your degree. You are certainly better off going to a school that is affordable so that you don’t have the financial worry stressing you out. Once you are there, you need to improve your grades substantially and make a backup plan in case you do not get into medical school. One option might be to get a Masters degree before applying to medical school and doing well there. However, right now, your main goal should be to transfer, get your degree and do as well as possible.

My GPA was low, but now low to the point that I was on academic probation. But thank you for your response
