Honestly, How Important Is College Prestige?

Hi people! I will be attending Walsh University (north canton, ohio) in the fall. It is a small private catholic school and is most certainly not “prestigious” or anything.

Anyways, I plan on becoming a CPA when i get older. I have no plans of world domination or anything (unlike many on CC seem to have). I just want a good decent job. BTW i plan to continue living in northeast ohio.

So honestly, how important is school prestige in my case (assumimg i get a decent GPA. 3.0+

Thx

You should have no problem getting a “good decent” job in northeast Ohio or anywhere else for that matter.

In many fields prestige is secondary to the actual degree. Particularly in fields like accounting where passing the right exam is what counts, not where you did your undergraduate studies.

Well, thats nice to know.

Seriously though, Walsh is a good school. It’s not going to prevent you from fulfilling your career goals.

For a CPA, the “prestige” of your degree will be absolutely meaningless.

You might not get to work for the big 4 CPA firms coming from Walsh or a small non-AACSB school

Maybe you could look into regional domination… There won’t be any foreign language requirement… :)

Education-wise, you won’t be lacking. The biggest thing prestigious colleges offer is job connections, but a student who looks for opportunity will find those regardless. You’ll be more than fine.
