<p>If a relative of mine has an honorary degree from a university would this make them an alumni who can be cited on an application?</p>

<p>Good question, something I wish I had answered before I applied to some of my schools. I think you can get away with it.</p>
<p>While I don’t think that it makes them Alumni, name-dropping couldn’t hurt, as the university must view your relative as notable for something.</p>
<p>That relative should definitely send in a letter of recommendation regardless of the teacher and guidance counselor recs.</p>
