Honors Admission??

does anyone know when honors admission decisions are made? Their website doesn't seem to give any information on this.

I called, and they said by Feb 1.

Accepted! Honors admission!

My son received honors admission today, Feb 29. We are in Ny if that helps.

Yay! Merit scholarship came today! Now we will visit for sure!

Oh, Congratulations!

Congratulations applicantmum...my son received honors admission and we are waiting to hear about merit money. Most likely will visit March 29, how about you?

We can't decide when to visit. This will be our first visit so unsure if we should go to the showcase on the 29th or visit during a normal day (and have D do an overnite visit) Any thoughts?

ddotjon, have you been there before?

We are thinking this could be the one so want to take a close look.

Applicantmum...we have not visited yet. I am thinking that visiting on March 29th, which is for honors admission applicants, would be the best way to get the most out of the visit, I haven't gotten much from other colleges campus tours, 1 1/2 hour tour just doesn't give you the entire picture. Also, my friend's daughter is a sophomore there, they love it. They had visited on the honors weekend, and she highly recommends going for the honors weekend. I am hoping to get merit scholarship info before March 29th, so at least we have an idea of the cost before making the trip there. We are in NY, LI and it is a long trip for us.

Congrats to your son! We are from LI also. The merit money just came 3 days ago, so I hope you get it soon. The merit amounts are small, I suppose because they are a state school.

I thought the showcase day on the 29th was just 1/2 day program so I will look into that again. I don't want to do the trip twice.

How did your friends daughter adjust to a predominately virginian school? Would you describe the atmosphere as mostly serious students?

Applicantmum, what she said was don't be intimidated by the quality of applicants you see at scholars weekend. She meant very high achievers at scholars weekend, as her daughter attended, she met a lot of "regular" students. She also said her daughter has friends at UVA, she visits there a lot. In the beginning, the parties and late nights at UVA were fun, now, as a sophomore, her friends complain about the noise in the dorms and what not. Her daughter is very happy to go back to Mary Wash, where it is quieter. Fredricksburg is nice, and transportation to and from LI can be done by train or bus from there. It is not far from campus. She raves about the professors, really likes the classes. The professors she has are very approachable, one even had the kids over for dinner at her house. She says the campus is beautiful, as we can see on the website. Also, the staff are very professional. You get calls back immediately, and academic advisors are really accessible. She has friends at UDel, trying still to speak to an academic advisor, as a sophomore, which they can't seem to do. All in all, sounds like a good option. If students want football games, keg parties and frat parties, I don't think Mary Wash is the place for them, which I personally can do without.

Thank you, ddotjon. That is what I was hoping to hear. Is UVA about an hour? Do you know what your friend's D is majoring in?

Her daughter is majoring in biology. Hoping, possibly to teach secondary ed. I think UVA is 40min-1hour away. Also, for what its worth, her daughter was accepted to Geneseo, Villanova, and other nice schools I don't recall, and decided to attend Mary Washington. She said her merit money made Mary Wash comparable to tuition at Geneseo.

WE decided to do both the overnight visit and the honors admission showcase on 3/29. It will give us a chance to explore the area as well as the college. Anyone have hotel or bed/breakfast suggestions? Things to do in the neighborhood?

So, you're going for the showcase and staying for the overnight the same day? That's a good idea. We are also going to showcase, not staying overnight though. Also, I was hoping to hear about merit money prior, but it doesn't look like that's going to happen.

Son received acceptance letter yesterday, check in the mail tommorow. Only school he applied for and visited, what a relief he got in!

congratulations to all! i have heard nothing but wonderful things about mary washington, and i have a friend whose d is very interested. would any of you mind posting some stats? also, if you're in or OOS? it'll be a great reference point. and since this is an honors thread, does anyone know the stats for admission for NON honors? is MW as strict about OOS as say, UVA? thanks!

happycollegemom, I don't know about stats, but I know that they take about 30% OOS.

thanks, northeastmom! hope you're well!

I have heard they are looking to expand # of OOS students. They have been marketing the school up and down the east coast.
