I was student of the month in English sophomore year. Can I write that under “honors/awards”?

BUmppp why doesn’t anyone answer on my threads!?!?

BUMP. Can I also write the following:
-Advnd regents diploma
-Law diploma

One way to do it is to write down every possible honor and award you received from freshmen year and up. Then put them in order from what you think is most impressive to least impressive. Keep the whole list handy. As you fill out applications, fill in the blanks for honors and awards - if there are five blanks, you already know which 5 to list: the first five. If there are 10 blanks, list the top ten.
You might want to be a bit more specific. Though everyone in your personal circle may know what you mean here, I am not sure every college admissions counselor will have the same knowledge base. A “Law diploma” from where, for example? And do please define “Advnd (advanced?),” and specify which regents of what granted the Advnd diploma.

Good luck!

A regents is like a state test that is administered in NY after taking courses. For example, I took chemistry for a year and took this test after. After passing 3 science regents and I believe 2 math regents, my guidance counselor informed me that I would be getting an Advanced Regents Diploma in addition to my regular HS diploma.

The Law Diploma is from my school. I took 3 law courses in school, and for that they told me they would be giving me this diploma in addition to those other 2.

Much better! It appears that the Regents Diploma and Law Diploma may not yet have been conferred, however, so be careful of stating them as though you have already received them. You can go ahead and list them, just be sure you aren’t stating you have received something that will not be granted until you graduate. Something like:

Advanced Regents Diploma candidate

Law Diploma candidate

Student of the Month, February 2009 (or whatever month/year it was awarded)

*And if you are applying to out of New York schools, you might want to use the “Other information” section of the application to briefly explain the diploma designations.

Thanks for that! I talked to my guidance counselor and she said I WILL get it. There’s no possibility that I won’t. Would it be fine if I leave “candidate” out of it?
