honors med program

i talked to one of my friends in the program, so here is a scenario for ya’ll:

There is an honors med program that makes you take a total of 11 required courses, so all students in the program must take those 11 exact classes. 3 of those classes are time intensive (>10-12 hours a week of class and studying) and they are biology courses. You are pretty sure you could take the MCAT and get into the med school on your own caliber without the med program, without taking those 3 classes. Since those 3 classes are 5 credits, it would significantly mess up your GPA if you don’t get an A. Since you are considering to apply to top med schools, getting a lower science gpa and not having time to do other extracurrics could cost you admissions to those top med school. With that said,

Would you drop the honors med program so that you wouldn’t have to take those 3 classes and you would have more time for interesting extracurrics OR would you stay in the program and take those 3 classes? By drop, it means to finish undergrad in 3 years instead of the expected 4, but you would not graduate with honors since you would not have completed the 11 course requirement.

Is graduating with honors even significantly important for top med schools?
