Honors Program Application Question

Just a humorous observation.

My son will be applying to an honors program soon. I’m looking at their application and noticed something in the part the guidance couselor is supposed to fill out. Just above a section that asks extensive questions about the high schools math curriculm (math prowess is a very important factor in this program) they list the following questions:

What is the current size of the graduating class?
How many students in the graduating class are currently ranked in the top 5%?

(Let’s see, if we had 100 seniors, 5% would be, what 5?)

That’s really, um, scary?

Dare I ask what school this is?

I’m not telling until after my son hears one way or the other from them, sorry.

Thank you for the laugh of the day!

I can see how this would be a legit questions. Some schools “rank” all the kids with a certain gpa at the same level and that could be much more than the percentile number might indicate.

Yeah, I realized that ties would affect the number as I went to lunch.
