honors program

what type of honors prgoram does USC have for freshmen applicants? is it the thematic option route? are there other options for honors courses? what are the pros and cons of these institutions, and is there separate housing or prefrential class selection available? thanks!

there is thematic option which can be completed in lieu of USC’s required 6 gen ed classes.

there is also freshman science honors, in which participants take advanced general chem, advanced organismal biology, and advanced cell biology

scholarship students have the choice of living in Dean’s hall (marks hall or trojan hall)

There are also some departments with advanced courses (outside of an honors program) like advanced physics. The math department was also thinking of offering advanced calculus I and II which would replace calc I, II, and III, but I don’t think they’re doing that right now yet.

Other honors programs (like engineering honors) isn’t affiliated with advanced courses but rather with a separate honors colloquium course (1 unit, credit/no credit)

Can Dean’s scholars be part of the Dean’s Hall thing on scholarship floors?

yeah i was wondering the same thing about dean’s scholars and if they can stay at dean’s hall…though i heard its pretty crappy? someone verify please

Apparently it’s pretty crappy & Trojan Hall is the worst (really old, small rooms, right on the highway). But I wanted to put Marks down b/c I think it would still be cool to be instantly surrounded by less of a party vibe.
