Honors Program

What is benefit of being in Honors Program?

Also, if you are not in honors program, what is the difference for being in honors and not being in honors?

… there are many threads that cover this topic in depth. Do a forum search.

they put a sign on your backpack that says nonhonors so everybody can laugh at you on the way to class.

…

wat the hell do YOU think the difference is?

everything’s right in the old threads – except now you don’t get priority enrollment appointments for your classes (enrollment before every other student regardless of class standing who doesn’t have priority). Basically though, you have a greater opportunity to take seminar classes with the ability to get a shiny star on your diploma that says you did Honors (there are three types of ‘honors’: Honors based on the Honors Program, Latin Honors (based solely on GPA), and Departmental (based usually on research and other things depending on the dept.) honors fwiw).

^ you don’t need to be in the honors program to take any of the honors collegium courses/seminars though

right you also can’t make honors contracts if you’re not in honors though. but yes thanks for adding that.

^true but most of the courses where the 89/189 seminar addendum are already in place will accept nonhonors people too

i’m aware. ive taken about 7 . . . for the extra GRADED units . . . (as opposed to 1.0 unit fiat luxes) . . . i tried to make a 89HC or a 189HC for the extra graded units but could not on MyUCLA because of the restriction . otherwise everything else is accessible in Honors

what? what i’m talking about is a situation like if you take ls2 and the professor tells the class you can take an 89 seminar linked to the class- you don’t need to be in the honors program, can still take this class for a grade, and get that extra 1 graded unit…

i’m not debating that nor have i disagreed with any of your comments
the only exception, as i stated above, was the ability to forge honors contracts. often, you can pursue an honors contract, if in the honors program, with a professor assuming that they do NOT offer 89 or 189 seminars along with their main courses. i’ve tried this, was offered permission, and could not because i was not officially in the honors program (am I in it now? No, I just want the extra units to graduate without taking a full blown course(s)). there are limited 89 or 189 seminars - right they’re accessible to the general student body. point is - if you want extra honors credits and they’re not available, ask your professor to forge an HC

i don’t still don’t see how ursa would block you considering ever other honors course possible does not require that you be in the honors program to enroll. if for some reason you’re getting blocked by ursa, go down to murphy and tell them you plan on joining honors and need that contract that quarter in order to stay on track once you get in (whether you plan on ever eventually applying for honors or not…)
