I am a double major, psychology and anthropology. I was planning on doing an honors thesis next yer (senior year). I have extremely high GPAs in both majors (~3.93) and slightly lower overall (~3.6). I am also involved in a research lab, and am planning on doing post bac for med school. I have recently had many somatic manifestations of stress, my body has been acting up. I feel like a lot of this stress stems from the uncertainty about the thesis process, and my ability to handle the load.

Why are the benefits of doing this, is it worth it with everything else that I am doing? Can I still get into med school with hood grades/high mcat?

I’m going the post bacc med program route and I really don’t think an honors thesis matters one bit. In the end they look at: overall GPA, science GPA, MCAT, and experience (vounteering, shadowing, etc.).

I agree with KnitKnot, the stress isn’t quite worth it… If you’re not enjoying the thesis and the process (and thinking too much about the end product), then it’s definitely not worth the stress. I’m only doing my psych thesis since it’s a preparation tool to learn how to write more effectively in future publications, reviews, etc… But yeah, the thesis sometime can be definitely challenging when trying to meet deadlines - it’s already taken me longer than 1 yr to finish it. You can just drop it, and build up on that lab experience instead. I’m also a premed, double major… I understand the stress completely, definitely not helpful for our poor hippocampal cells! Good luck!

Doing an honors thesis could boost your chances of admission, but doing one in each major would be overkill.
