I was using the ubc website to look at the required books and for HONR100, POCKET STYLE MANUAL W/MLA QUICK REF CRD was required. Is this book necessary for class and isn’t there going to be a book that is given out in the class? Also, if anybody knows, is there a book needed for ENAE100?

yea dont buy it. i took honr200 i didnt even buy the book. all it was just articles, which you can find easily on the web

so we shouldnt get the manual for honr100? (wondering if its the same as honr200)

How much does it cost? If it’s cheap and you don’t already have an MLA handbook, I’d just buy it. Might make assignments easier if there are a couple based on that.

I already have two style handbooks (MLA and Chicago) from writing high school papers, so getting a pocket style handbook seems slightly repetitive!

there are 2 different things being talked about here: a style guide/manual and a course packet/“textbook”. the style guide is what the OP saw listed on testudo. the book of articles sarahlitke mentioned is a course packet, which usually isn’t listed on the UBC list because they don’t sell them there. (you would just be told on the first day of class to buy it.)

as for the style guide-- i’d say wait until the first day and ask the section leaders if another style guide would be acceptable to use. your HONR100 section leaders are current honors upperclassmen so they will definitely understand the “i don’t want to waste money on books” situation!

jsc10: not sure if you’re referring to a style guide or course pack. either way, HONR100 and HONR200 are different classes and would have different materials.
