Sad to have a large, purposeful explosion on Christmas Day. Stay safe everyone .
Wow, hadn’t seen the update that it was intentional. How incredibly sad.
Luckily, it seems to have had very few casualties - only a few wounded and no dead or critically injured, at least as far as is known.
Pretty scary. We live about 50 miles away. The explosion was next to AT&T’s main switching center, and cellphones have been disrupted intermittently all day. It was a very large blast, and it is very fortunate there weren’t more casualties. Hopefully those responsible will be apprehended soon.
Local news story:
Thinking of our mutual friend who was here and lives in the area. Hoping all is well with her and her family
Our cell service (AT&T) is still down, thankfully we have internet at home and we still have a landline, but it is definitely alarming at how easily our lives could be disrupted.
On Christmas afternoon, Nashville D (who doesn’t have ATT) was unable to call me (I do have ATT), but I was able to call her even though parts of my state were affected by the outage. Per my local news last evening, local businesses that process credit cards using an ATT connection were limited to cash only yesterday. I think they have temporary fixes made as of this morning.
I hope the investigators get the answers to this terrible crime soon. I’m in awe of the 6 police officers who took on the task of evacuating people at that early hour on Christmas day.
News conference ongoing now. All AT&T cell phones are restored, 911 and other services should be restored sometime today. Damage downtown is extensive, will take years to rebuild area due to apparent structural building damage
Agree, six police officers that evacuated residents as blast countdown was broadcast from camper are heroes. Also, bomber took precautions to limit loss of life.
Bomber is assumed to be a 63 year old local IT consultant, white male, evidently perished in the camper when it exploded. Some are speculating the bomber may have been influenced by 5G conspiracy theories (hence the bombing location by the AT&T data center), but evidence is thin at this point.
