Hope Nobody was Snowed In

It’s a beautiful, sunny Sunday morning here in Toronto which is wonderful after 36 hours of snow! We ended up with 16" of the white stuff in our part of the city and that was on top of already very high piles. Snowiest winter in Toronto’s history of record-keeping. I long for spring. :)

my daughter left Boston ( via Manchester NH ) to fly into Philly. Her flight was a little delayed, but the drive to the airport was a rough one. Flooded roads, lanes closed on the highway. Deluge one minute, sun out the next.
Then the 70 MPH wind gusts ( thankfully after we got back home ) The weather has been evey rough around here lately.
We moved into another house last year and we have never felt the wind so much as we do here…it wakes us all up at night.

I hope everyone gets home , or to their destinations okay.

CMdad and I buzzed up to NYC for d’s dance performance this weekend and had plane reservations to fly back to Atlanta last night out of Laguardia. Our flight was cancelled, however, so we spent yet another night on dd’s floor and are preparing to head to the airport for round two. Needless to say, I got an “unexpected” day off from work…

Strange, indeed, that it was evidently much colder yesterday in Atlanta than here in NYC where it was kind of muggy and very, very wet. Now it’s brisk and chilly.

Well my husband & D are on their flight. Looks like they will make it to Ohio after all. Binx, so glad to hear your D is happy with her choice - if my D ends up at Miami I might have to get advise from you on what to send her with!

S2 made it through the first leg of his trip safely, and is en route to VA now. He is staying with a friend of mine once he is there. She just called awhile ago and said she is without power due to the winds. Scheduled to come back on tonight around 10. Hope it does, or he’s in for a chilly night.

binx, I am glad that your son made it safely.

D just arrived home from Ohio. She left school Friday afternoon with snow just starting to accumulate and made it to DC that night. She drove the rest of the way home Saturday and Sunday. This was a major event for a Florida freshman. Ohio to Pittsburgh was pretty stressful driving. She was sorry to miss all that snow but was happy she was not stuck at an airport like so many of her friends. Luckily she has a 2 week break to soak up the sun before she heads back. Thank God for cell phones, or I would have gone crazy worrying.

HS son was snowed in all weekend at a hotel in Columbus at the Latin convention–but that was ok! They got there Friday just before the roads were bad, and came back today, exactly as planned.

And college son is on his way home today instead of yesterday. Hopefully I-71 is all cleared up now.

Haha…I like the way p3t’s post ended with a word unfinished. Do you suppose the power went off just then? :D

Ha! I missed that the first read through, mommusic!

Friend called me to say S2 would be there within the hour, and power was back on.

So much snow has melted–it’s really not very impressive any more. We can’t believe we were complaining yesterday about being snowed in. I guess that’s March for you.

Son reports on the drive down from northern Ohio, they saw huge piles of snow in the median, then smaller piles, then even some bare ground here and there. Glad I live here in the “south.”

But they also saw a fair number of trucks stuck and or jacknifed. Good thing S & friends waited a day to travel. I would have been a nervous wreck!

Glad to hear everyone’s kids seem to be making it home okay.

I am glad too. Taxicab, is your family going to try to go to accepted student’s day? I guess it is looking okay for tomorrow.

FWIW, there are multiple sites where you can check on the actual status of a flight. If the flight is from or to one of the NY airports you can go to nynjpa.com and check for flight status at each of the NY area airports. This site shows ACTUAL take-off and landing information as opposed to the airlines which usually show the time the plane pushes back from the gate. Several independent sites also provide this information; flytetracker and flightaware are two of them. I use all 3 religiously when one of my kids is flying!

Northeastmom - My husband & D made it to Ohio today! They walked the campus, had dinner and attended a session with current students. Tomorrow is a full day of activities. My D called me tonight very excited to inform me that this is exactly what she is looking for and this is where she wants to go. Now we just have to figure out how to pay for it!!

Taxicab, this sounds exciting! I am glad that the trip to OH is working out. Paying for 4 years, well, that is the tough part!

Taxicab - unless I missed an intervening post, we’re still talking MU-OH, right? Feel free to PM me if I or my D can answer any questions. The fact that your D can say this with 13" of snow on the ground is a good sign.
