Hope Nobody was Snowed In

I heard that OH had a lot of snow. I know that a lot of students have spring break this week. I hope that everyone made it home safely, and that nobody is stuck sleeping in the airport.

Uh, oh. It’s really snowing hard in Buffalo right now. Last time this happened, the power went out for a wee

P3T, I hope that you’ll keep your lights on this time! A week without electricity, I find a day too long! It is really annoying to throw out all of your food, esp. if you freeze a lot of things.

DD and 12 fellow students are on their way from Boston U. to our home in central OH. Not thinking they are going to make it. They are on their way to an Alternative Spring Break experience in Omaha. It is going to be difficult for them to reach their destination without trekking through some pretty rough spots.

D in OH has had classes cancelled (including midterms) the past two days. Her spring break is still a week away - hope it clears up by then!

We even had snow here this morning - didn’t stick. It had been pretty warm most of the week, so the ground was still warm. Weird weather.

S2 is in the middle of his 2 week break - he is travelling with a group of friends to VA from NYC this weekend. I’ve been watching the weather - looks like they’re driving through lots of rain; hopefully all will go well.

Ohio Wesleyan started spring break yesterday–many kids are snowed in–we have 20+ inches of snow in columbus. nasty.

binx, I am in NJ and there is also a lot of wind. We almost lost our electricity this evening. It is possible that they might need to pull over if it gets too windy. Your D must be happy that she has the extra time to study!

KCOHIO, wow! So do they keep the dorms open if you cannot fly home? Are kids who went to the airport stuck there, or was it a situation where they could not get there in the first place?

momnipotent, I will keep my fingers crossed. Let us know how it turned out!

We are supposed to fly into Ohio tomorrow to attend Accepted Student’s Day at Miami Ohio on Monday. Nothing is posted on the web site about any cancelation. I don’t know if we will be able to get there though.

Daughter is stuck at JFK waiting for the weather to clear. Her flight was cancelled but they got her on an earlier plane that was being delayed. I don’t think it’s looking great for tonight. She said the drive from CT to JFK was one of the worst ever because it was raining so hard. It’s the wind that is keeping planes grounded from what I can tell.

Taxicab, congratulations on your D’s acceptance! Does your D still want to go, LOL? That is unbelievable. I guess some will try to get there, and some will reschedule.

mimk6, It was very windy in our area. It seems to have calmed down in the last few minutes, but I guess it could kick up again.

I hope they get there – this weather will help her decide if she really wants to go. They toured Fairleigh Dickinson yesterday and were planning to go from there to Ohio. I want my husband to make her walk all over the campus. Haha this southern girl has no idea what she is getting into!

My dad is stuck in Columbus :(

This snowstorm is not what any of us in OH are used to. (In central OH anyway). Much more snow than I have seen in years…maybe since the big one in 1977. The BU kids are still on the way…

Taxicab, I hope your daughter will take into consideration that this blizzard is really not typical for central/southern Ohio. My daughter attends school about 30 minutes south of KCOHIO’s school, and this is the first big snowstorm she’s experienced there. Of course, as a Michigander, she’s used to much more than someone from the South would be, but she’s actually mentioned how much milder the weather is in central OH than MI.

taxicab, at FDU it was rainy, and maybe windy, but there was no snow today :)

Yes, it was rainy there as they left yesterday. They had planned to go back today to see if there was any weekend activity but decided there would not be any with the rain. Thanks for everyone’s info!

At Ohio Wes. the dorms are staying open all weekend at least. They are feeding the kids lots of pizza! They are going to try for the airport tomorrow but that is still iffy. The kids are having a great time in the snow one minute and crying because spring break is sliding by the next.

Northeastern Mom, yes, the wind died down and the plane took off and should arrive some time in the wee hours. I just wish the airline website would update the status to the actual take-off time and give some solid info on the landing. It’s a bummer to stand around outdoors in a baggage claim area in the middle of the night. It’s great to have a small airport but there is nowhere to wait in those wee hours.

Taxicab, I talked to my D last night (southern girl - freshman at Miami -Ohio). She’s been in snow before - like in Germany - but never like this. She said she LOVES it. She said “It’s the fun kind of snow!” But she also said the weather has been very strange - pretty warm most of the week. On Friday she went to her 8 a.m. class in dry weather. When she came out an hour later, there was snow pretty much covering everything. By that afternoon, her classes were cancelled. She said the main problem has been teachers who live a bit further from campus are getting snowed in where they live and can’t get to school. She went to a recital of a friend recently, on western campus, and had to wade through knee deep drifts. She said the school is less conscientious about clearing west campus. I asked her if she was sorry she chose a school up north, and she said no!

Haven’t heard from S2. Yesterday he and friends were driving to Philly area, to stop over at one of the friend’s houses. Today the rest of the way to VA. Wish I would have asked for updates along the way.

We’ve had wind here, too. Tornado near Atlanta did some damage to a Kroger. Wind sounds like a horror movie sometimes. Today it looks clear and calm.

binx, I hope that you hear from your son this morning, if you have not heard already.

mimk6, I am glad that your D was able to fly out.

KCOHIO, I am glad the OW is taking care of everyone, and keeping them safe. Sounds like everyone will be able to dig out today, and hopefully get to where they are going by this afternoon.

Taxicab, I hope that it all works out tomorrow.
