HOPE Scholarship - too late?

So when I applied for HOPE earlier, they told me I could only apply 2nd starting March, because I accidentally ticked that I would no take part in the SSS… Is it too late to apply for HOPE and even get money out of it? Same goes for FAFSA… I am completely late on everything

SSS? What is the date required for your school for FAFSA?

@“Erin’s Dad” SSS as in Selective Service Systems, and the FAFSA is due June 30th, however I’m just assuming that filling out the form this late will have my receive little to no financial aid >_>

The deadline for FAFSA is the end of the spring term of the year, so for a 2016-17 school year it is May or June 2017… There may be some funds at your school that early filing of the FAFSA would help with, like SEOG or work study. The deadline for Hope is whatever they said it was/is. For Florida Bright futures, it is before high school graduation. No exceptions.

If you don’t register for selective service, and you are required to (male over 18), I don’t think they will process your FAFSA.

@twoinanddone That’s the problem, I did not know what SSS was at the time I was 17 so I said no and they denied application… I applied really early that time (around the time it had just came out) and now I am at disadvantage because of my stupid knowledge T_T

Are you in high school or in college? Just refile the fafsa with the correct information, and if you haven’t registered then do it.

If you are already in college, you might be too late for Hope. the Hope rules control the Hope scholarship, and if you had to file FAFSA, and FAFSA required SS registration, you are probably too late. Florida used to require FAFSA for Bright Futures and of course that meant the SS registration had to be completed. Now BF no longer requires a FAFSA be filed but the rule about filing before hs graduation is absolute, and there are no exceptions.

If your disadvantage is because of filing FAFSA in March and not Jan, well, there isn’t anything to be done except filing now. You’ll still get Pell and loans in the amounts you qualify for. Many schools do still have SEOG and work study available.

Based on your profile picture, I assume you’re a girl. Why would you be required to register for SSS then??

Yes. At this point women are not required to register (may change in the future).

But I put no on the SSS and was denied my application?

Are you talking about the Georgia Hope Scholarship? If so you are not too late for HOPE. It’s base on your GPA not your income. You don’t even have to fill out an FAFSA to get HOPE. You can go directly to GAcollege411 and fill out the application.
