Hopkins vs Penn

hi! so i am really struggling with my decision. i want to be in health sciences. hopkins is great for me financially. i would have to pay a couple thousand more to be at penn (and honestly i see how it could pile up throughout the years). they’re both great schools, and i am just unsure and indecisive. location isn’t an issue for me. if anyone has any advice. absolutely anything

Have you visited or read the Fiske guide on these two schools? They definitely have differences.

Don’t know what your metrics are, but if “prestige” (& esp “Ivy”) is one of them, between these two choices, it is 100% irrelevant for any health sciences path

i feel like the only weight that penn holds at this point is that its an ivy. i mean of course it seems like a fun school, but it is a bit more pricey, so not worth it right? do you guys like hopkins/think its a good school?

If you can afford both, then where you feel most ‘at home’ is the best choice.

I think of JHU as a ‘fit’ school: if it suits you it’s a great choice. The students that I have known who have thrived there are students who are innately hard workers- competitive with themselves more than other people, who aim to excel at whatever they do. I know a broader range of students who have liked Penn- imo it suits more types of students.

thank you so so so much this was really helpful :)) i appreciate your time!!!

If JHU is better for you financially, then that’s preferable.

yes i agree! thank you so much for taking the time to help :))
