Horrible GPA, good SATS, and steller ECs

<p>Hey guys ! Heres my list with details below.
Declared major : Business general/admin</p>

<p>1)Pepperdine (absolute DREAM school. Will literally shout in excitement for at least a week.)
2) CLU
3) CSUCI
4) MIT (made a promise. pretty much a joke i guess)

I am one of those intelligent kids with super hard working parents who some how turned out lazy, yet has extreme mental capacities. Thus I screwed up my high school career, well for the most part at least. To be blunt my grades SUCK and I have little in the way of APs. I am afraid my GPA will prevent my admissions. All courses College prep (except noted)
(GPA is 0=f 1=d 2=c 3=b 4=a no weighting + only academic GPA listed)</p>

<p>Ya as you can see…horrible. Not to mention that i originally took spanish one in eight grade and retook it, took geometry online in-order to go in the advanced math track (which led to utter confusion in algebra 2 which i had to retake in summer school) , alongside the need for me to retake English 11 because I got a C in semester one AP and thus was dropped, and dismissed to a boring and pointless class. End of run on. lol. Anyway I also retook world history semester 2 online (BYU) and will be doing the same with US history as once again I received a C in AP and gave up in my normal classes. </p>

<p>TL;DR I had to retake alot of classes because I pretty much NEVER do homework. </p>

<p>So obviously my GPA sucks and is a huge weight. Heres the remaining stuff.</p>

<p>2) Founder, Ceo, and head techie at Compcom corp. My favorite EC. I pretty much dedicate my life to it. I needed a job in my sophomore year, and since I am a computer guru thought of working for the geek squad. When I discovered that not only was I over qualified but i would be underpaid, I scoffed. Thus I hatched the idea of creating Compcom corp. We are a 10 man strong corporation (completely legal, registered , and taxed) which provided computer repair, maintenance, and tutoring. The company has boasted much profit for myself and has become quite popular in my town (yay). </p>

<p>2) Recommendations. a) English 10/12 teacher + acadeca coach. She knows me SUPER well and is practically like a family member to me, not simply a great mentor. b) Head of academy and secretary. The new academy dean knows me well, yet the assistant dean has known me and my mother for years. She is also a pepperdine alum ! c) Letter from my physcologist and psychiatrist. Started seeing them in late 10th grade FYI. </p>

<p>3)Father is Hofstra graduate. CEO of a Financial Advisory firm in Manhattan. Travels back and forth. Mother is high school graduate, unemployed. </p>

<p>4)Italian descent, 20 minutes from the school , originally from long island new york (moved at 10 ) and 2nd generation college, 3rd generation citizen.</p>

<p>5) I know about 6 people who work at pepperdine (one in admin actually AND ANOTHER that works in admissions!) and I have 3 friends that go there</p>

<p>Well if you some how read all this i deeply appreciate it so thank you in advance. Please tell me whether I should stop dreaming or if i have a chance!</p>

because you failed chemistry, i seriously doubt you’ll pull a B in physics… its the harder of the two.

<p>no i live in cali, chemistry is the only class i actually had trouble in. Never before have i not understood a class ! sucked. Anyway i am great at physics, might even pull an A (i actually already studied for physics AP c but the calculus in it made me stop)</p>

or Physics B
or Ap Physics B
Or Ap Physics C ?</p>

<p>if your taking any regular physics class studying for Physics C will not help you.</p>

<p>tbh, i’d be looking at in state cali schools =/</p>

<p>EDIT: after re-reading your ECS, i don’t see much there. job shadow days, we have those too… and job interview days, i hope you get more out of them than I did.</p>

<p>maybe its just me, but the EC’s don’t look “steller.” Founding a small business and being in a few clubs is great, but I see no athletics or club sports or youth volunteering, maybe something you should consider going into senior year. Colleges look for someone who will be involved in the community and give back, not someone who made some money through a business. SAT’s are alright, but nothing astounding. You are a solid applicant who has a chance at Pepperdine(id say 50/50 chance), but deffinately don’t count your chickens before they hatch. make sure you do well in your senior year, colleges also look for improvement. good luck!</p>

<p>On the non stellar ECs thing…lmao you have no idea. I pretty much dedicated my life to my ECs. My bussiness has generated over ten thousand dollars since january, my work in the academy goes above and beyond much of the staff and the time i spend in acadeca is priceless. Not to mention my beloved JACP and always fun geopolitics. I pretty much have perfect ECs (imo). </p>

<p>With regards to physics, i gave up the studying over a year ago. Since I love to build things, take things apart, etc. I wanted to do physics C but could not grasp the math. None the less my school only offers physics general and Physics AP general. Its pointless.</p>

<p>On the contrary, i think your ECs are great for the schools you are applying too! I doubt you will get into MIT (very selective!). However, I am fairly certain that you will get into Pepperdine, since very few people can actually start their own company. Your passion for computers clearly shows and maybe you should try applying for CMU computer science? But if Pepperdine is truly your dream school, then i say go for it! You have a VERY strong chance of getting in if you SAT score is 2100.</p>

So you work on computers and you got 80th put of 300 in some academic competition (for the record, unless you place in the top 10% at a national level, awards are nothing)? BIG FREAKING DEAL! Like XC said, you need a broader range of activities (sports, community service, etc.)</p>

<p>Honestly, you don’t pull off the “brilliant but lazy” because even extreme laziness is not an excuse for Fs. I never studied for biology ever, but I pulled off A-/B. And your SATs do not suggest that you are brilliant. Your ECs are your one forte, but they don’t say “I have low Gpa because I’m always busy with other ****”, they say “I have other interests than school, and I prioritize school very low.” </p>

<p>Write your essays well, and I think you’ll get into Pepperdine.</p>

<p>If you didnt include that last line i would essentially call you the biggest ■■■■■■ ever. I never do homework. Ever. Period the end. I am in CP classes (normal level) and thus homework is a big deal. The only class that i didnt ace the final on this year was chem. Anyway as for the SAT it was a bit of a choke. Im happy with the perfect essay but i really want over a 2100. hopefully in the fall. Thanks for the pepperdine comment however. I finally toured the campus and i am compleatly in love yet again ! </p>

<p>This is why i hate this site (and dont visit it much anymore). The people here are negative, and dont research what they are saying. The academic decathalon is a formidable class ranging 10 topics all traught at a college level. It brings together the smartest minds. Everyone who got in the top 25 this year in my district is at an ivy or top 20 university. While my rank wasnt amazing , and i plan on doing better next year, I got first place (of 300+) on my interview (one of the 10 categories) with a perfect score. As for the lack of variance. Are you high ? Community service (food drive) , politics (geopol) , business (jacp, compcom, academy, internship) and my music (guitar club and my band) . </p>

<p>Future reference : READ BEFORE YOU POST ! I dont understand how ivy students can say stuff without reading ! In my honest opinion this makes these students much more idiotic than some one such as my self who simply is looking for some guidance. : P</p>

<p>like, god, you’re not trying to go to harvard. people are ridiculous. it’s fine if people wanna say your grades aren’t good, but there’s no reason to point out the lack of some random thing like community volunteering when you clearly have fifteen billion other extracurriculars. people are ridiculous.</p>

<p>honestly, the F’s are gonna make you a stretch at a lot of schools. do you know what your actual GPA is? i don’t feel like calculating it myself. you might’ve had it posted on there, i don’t remember, sorry.</p>

<p>i’m gonna go with just study really hard and try to get your SAT up, cuz i’m sure you’re capable. make colleges realize how smart you are and that you regret every minute of not studying hard enough or not doing homework.
i’d mention something about your grades in your essays. dont ‘make excuses’ but dont pretend its not there and hide it either. they need to know you know youve made mistakes and that you are going to be more successful in college.</p>

<p>I would suggest that if you want an honest answer you don’t flame others - they’re entitled to their opinions. If you don’t agree with them, you don’t have to go out on a limb in order to attack them and try to argue your own opinions - if you want someone to “chance you” and they do, the least you can do is be thankful.</p>

<p>Personally, I don’t know how the EC’s are going to play out in admissions. Some people get into colleges with absolutely no significant EC’s or awards and solely on their GPA and SAT alone, and it might seem as if colleges do, in general, place more weight on the academic side of one’s profile (you are going to college to study, of course). I think you do have a chance at all of these schools (MIT excluded, but that goes for pretty much everyone), so good luck.</p>

<p>In my essays ill definitely mention my regrets. I mention the fact that i am on medication as well. I have seen two doctors for a year now and still i am unable to control my homework and laziness issues : (. TY for the ecs comment. I wish i didnt have the low score in math and chem, but i guess i am screwed anyway. Oh well.</p>
