Hospital/MD etc in PHL near UPenn

Our student will be in Phl and staying at the UPenn dorms for 6-8 weeks this summer.
The forms ask us to put in a preferred hospital, Dentist and MD for treatment in case of emergancy or illness

Suggestions? We are not from Phl.

Thanks

Does it make a difference to your health insurance? If you are in an HMO or PPO, they may have some affiliate here. You ought to check.

Your kid will be 2-3 blocks away from two of the great teaching hospitals in the country. Apart from the foregoing, and taking account of age and whatever it is that is most likely to go wrong, I would say either Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) or Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania (HUP).

They want you to name a dentist and a doctor? There can’t be that many out-of-town students who can name a dentist and doctor in Philadelphia. I would be happy to give you some names, but really that seems silly. If your child needs medical care, and doesn’t have some existing chronic condition, it will be an emergency-type situation, and you are not going to contact a specific doctor. If he or she does have some chronic condition, maybe you should go through your existing doctor to find an appropriate contact here. And of course that could affect your choice of hospital, since different docs admit to different hospitals here.

I haven’t thought to check our insurance…I will do that. I think they want to have the bases covered…the kids will have use of the UPenn student medical facility and the parents have to specifiy preferences…
