If one starts out a college career pre-med (assuming as a science major) and for some reason along the way finds that it is not cut out for him to go to med school, but he still wants a career working in a health field in a hospital setting, preferably in a career requiring graduate work, what would some of those professions be? Which of these professions are in the highest demand?? Should a pre-med student have a “Plan B” in case this happens???

NP or PA are the best options – not sure if the prereqs overlap. Pay is similar to FP physicians, work does exist in hospital settings, and sacrifices in independence can (in some situations) be pretty superficial.

public health!

not really sure what you mean by hospital professions…but you can get a masters in public health in health policy and management/administration and run a hospital or you can do epidemiology and work in a hospital though most people do not. Let me know if you want more info about it.

Some ideas, focusing on hospital setting but not necessarily health care providers:

biostatistician at an academic medical center (though other hospitals have to crunch numbers as well)
