Host gift for Swiss friend

<p>Going to visit Switzerland and staying at a friend’s house for a few nights. His family will presumably be there, or may not. Been backpacking Europe for the past few weeks so will not be able to bring something from home. Not chocolate cos they are Swiss! Any ideas of what to get? Thing is, the family is originally Italian and he’s travelled the world himself including all over Italy (except Rome!) I’m in Rome at the moment so was thinking of wine or something nice from here. Any ideas of what to get?</p>

<p>A good Italian wine would be very nice, as long as you’re sure the parents drink. Alcohol is expensive to buy in Switzerland.</p>

<p>Last time i checked he said his parents are vacationing in Italy. They may be back, or it may just be him and his sister.</p>

<p>A fine bottle of “grappa” from Italy would be appreciated. It’s a sort of brandy distilled from the parts of grape left over after wine making. Very strong stuff, and very expensive in Switzerland. You might be able to find it in a small decorative bottle. It’s the thought that will be appreciated, don’t worry too much about trying to find something impressive. Enjoy!</p>
