^^^^Wow. I’ve heard of this, but in my experience it’s never actually happened. Must be some pheromones you all have!!

ETA: Bleeding in someone well past menopause is not normal and should be checked out. Could be a sign of a problem.

teri, take the supplies to your local high school. Lots of girls go to the school nurse when they need those. Even in our relatively “wealthy” suburban HS, there are girls who can’t afford them. One year the drill team had a “tampon drive”…as a philanthropic project, the booster club moms brought in boxes and boxes that were given to the nurse to distribute. (It makes me tremendously sad to think of a HS girl not being able to afford feminine hygiene products.)

Or an organization for battered women?

Agree about the donation suggestions, but do save a handful of supplies for guests that may need them. more than once, I have been grateful that my mom had a couple items in her house still!

What brand of pajamas do people recommend? I searched for wicking pajamas and found very mixed reviews and high prices on what I found. Are they worth it? I may just try some wicking athletic wear I already have in the house. My temp fluctuates and I sweat a bit, but the drenching sweats are few and far between for now.

I plan to revisit the hormone discussion with my doctor after what I have learned here. Thanks!

I’m interested the press announcement greenwitch linked. I’m already taking a different SSRI and wonder about switching or increasing the dosage.

Ditto for me. I get the sensation of being really hot, but I’m not waking up drenched in sweat, which was the case a while ago.

The first thing I did was get an insulating cover for my memory foam mattress. That seems to have taken care of the overheated feeling.

I saw an ad for a sleep number bed which is designed on the concept of temperature. His side could be adjusted to be warmer and her side could be cool. I lOVED it and showed it to my husband. Of course the price made it a deal breaker.

:(

When I first started flashing at 45, my PCP recommended what I learned was an SSRI rebranded to be marketed for stopping hot flashes (she had just been to a beach conference by the manufacturer, ugh). I only took it for a very short time but the side effect was an inability to (sorry TMI) orgasm and it was a bear getting weaned from it. I was highly irritated and gave her a teeny earful about it not being the 1950’s. It was called Pristiq, which is effexor rebranded.

I have a few a day, and some days a whole lot. Not bad though. I just have to stand up and throw off my robe (I keep the house cool), and then put it on again after evaporation multiple times a day.

Not doing hormones!

Each night before I attempt sleep I say “Let the games begin” and they do! It is a wild ride between sweatng and hair dripping to goosebumps and chills the kicking offblankets and layering them back on…ugh and why isn’t all this " exercise "causing weight loss? Lol this is really tough…so glad you understand…

Not helping in my case is that our cat is feeling a little insecure with all the weekend traveling we’ve been doing. We leave her food/water/clean litter for 2-3 nights almost every weekend. The older she gets, the less she likes it. Lately, she’s been sleeping on me every night. I wake up with her all snuggled up on me or right next to me, and she is just making the overheating thing worse. Moving her off me doesn’t work. She jumps right back on me. I don’t want to kick her out-one, she’d just howl at the door, and I’m feeling guilty for neglecting her. Sigh.

I’m going to start taking her with us to our lake house on the weekends. Maybe she’ll feel less insecure and will go back to sleeping on the sofa in our room instead of me!

That’s the truth. All of the above, plus back pain, plus a loudly snoring husband.

This small portable fan has been the best investment for me. I pretty much walk around with it all day long.
Also - I figured out that wine triggers hot flashes - so no more wine for me.

Long-time lurker, first-time poster who loves this thread.

I’m wondering whether any of you, pre-menopause, ever used a product called Lysteda. I’m using it for the first time this period and am curious with others’ experience. It’s to slow/stop the monthly, super-heavy bleeding I’ve been experiencing for 18 months now, which has lead to anemia.

This is actually the supplement I take. Doesn’t have soy.
( about every other week or so, I rarely have hot flashes)

[Natural Factors Menosense Veg-Capsules, 180-Count: Health & Personal Care](http://www.amazon.com/Natural-Factors-Menosense-Veg-Capsules-180-Count/dp/B0025OYXO8)

^^^^Do you know what the active ingredients of that supplement are?
I couldn’t find it at that link.

EDIT: never mind, found them.

My last period was while I was in the hospital for my heart attack (May of last year, age 51), though I had a little breakthrough bleeding two weeks ago. During perimenopause I had PMS – a whole new thing for me, as I seem to have missed out on that prior to that point. Had some hot flashes when I was 41, thought I was going to into menopause, but turns out it was a symptom of my leukemia. They went away once I started chemo.

I have had a relatively smooth glide into menopause, for which I am thankful – the other health issues have been quite enough! Now if I only could get rid of the teenage acne!!!

^^^^Beating leukemia and surviving a heart attack would probably make one view the annoyances of menopause in a different light.

Best wishes for your continued good health.

Thanks, nrdsb4. After hearing my sisters, mom and friends share their stories, I wouldn’t consider menopause just an annoyance!
