The Schools:
University of Texas- Austin I get automatic acceptance to the university because I’m top 10%, but I’m not sure how competetive it is to get into the Mechanical Engineering major.
University of Michigan (both parents alumni)
UCSB (oos)
UCLA (oos)
UCB (oos)
UVa (oos)
Rice (oos)
and my reaches
Dartmouth (applying as history major)
Stanford (dad is alumni)

I will differ the sex thank you! lol!
I really don’t know about Stanford… and Dartmouth…sorry but NO WAY… have you seen some of the students that have been rejected from Dartmouth… you should look at the stats of students who have been accepted & rejected at the top of this “what are my chances” discussion board.
You had a change of faith? Is this good or bad…
You SAT should make you :)))<smile with many chins… even with the writing… but you grades should make you cry. Fortunately enough your overall GPA was not hurt too bad!
I think UCLA and UCB might be a slight reach too… but you still have a good shot!
Doesn’t it suck to be white and middle class…
well best of luck!

Well I am applying to Stanford and Dartmouth and then saying a couple prayers to Jesus, God, Allah, Elohim, Shiva, Zeus, science, etc. and forgetting about it. It’s good to know that I still have a Shot at UCLA and UCB though!

Can anyone please enlighten me as to my chances with UofM, UVA, and Rice since those I’m not sure about? Thanks!

I hate to bump this when there are others who are in need of chance recommendations, but percentage-wise, what would ya’ll equate a reach, slight reach, or match with?

Different people use different scales, but here is mine:

Big Reach–Less than 25% chance
Reach–Less than 40% chance
Slight Reach–40% to 50% chance
Match–50% to 60% chance
Safe Match–60% to 75% chance
Safety–75% chance

Others use “slight reach” to mean 45% to 55% and “match” to mean 55% to 65% (part of the problem with one rater comparing their results to another rater is that the percentages of the two individuals are different).

Oh and if it helps, my UC-GPA, if I calculated it correctly, is a 3.83. I basically did 4=A, 3=B, etc. for all my classes in my sophomore and junior years. For 8 semesters worth of AP classes I instead used 5=A, 4=B. I don’t know if this is the right way to do it.
