Hotchkiss essay question

On the Hotchkiss app, there is a short answer question that asks, “Hotchkiss has a tradition in which the Head of School declares a holiday in honor of an alumnus. Whom would you choose to honor and why?” Do they mean any person that you would honor or a specific Hotchkiss alumnus?

it says in the question: “a holiday of an ALUMNUS.”

^^ thats what I figured but I thought that might be limiting applicants ability to express themselves if you’re confined to only alumni?? If you’re a current applicant how did you answer?

Here is a list of hundreds of prominent Hotchkiss alumni in all spheres of life, from academia and theology to arts, music, athletics, business, and government: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Hotchkiss_School_alumni

Use the opportunity to show that you are well-informed about the school you are applying to, and highlight someone who has contributed to an area about which you are passionate. Take this as an opportunity to show what moves you, and to relate your interests to those of alumni. Try to show aspects of your background or personality that have not been addressed elsewhere in your application but complement it.

@GoatMama I think he means that alumnus means only male ppl

Don’t know if I’m too late but I emailed Hotchkiss about this and it does NOT have to be an Alumni, it can be anyone.

I did it on my mom, so :stuck_out_tongue:

I thought it meant like if you were to honor someone for holiday, who would it be? The honor an alumnus part is probably an example? idk don’t trust me…
