Hotchkiss GPA Calculation?

I will be going to Hotchkiss next year, and I will be repeating 10th grade. I was wondering how my GPA would be calculated. Would they include my grades from public school, or just start it fresh? I know that colleges will look at all of my high school grades, so can anybody help me out???

Thankssssss

Well GPA is on a 12 point scale, 12 being A+, 11 A and so on and so forth. They will include your former school’s grades in their report but don’t fret that is not that important as long as you do well your junior and senior year you will be just fine.

I ammmmm fretting!!!
My public school grades SUCKKK!!!
At least I get to go to Hotchkiss for 3 years!!!

As a matter of fact, kafka is incorrect. Hotchkiss DOES NOT include your former school’s grades in their report. You are responsible for submitting them yourself.

You’re repeating lower mid? If I had chosen to repeat lm we’d be in the same grade!!! It’s kind of scary that Hotchkiss has unweighted GPAs because I’m taking either 3 or 4 APs next year, not sure.

Hi, tennisgeek1–if you’re asking about what grades/GPA colleges will see, then your current school probably already has provided an official transcript of your 9th & 10th grade years to Hotchkiss so Hotchkiss will have that when your advisor there sends out school reports for college applications. Assuming you do great in your three years at Hotchkiss, that will obviously be the primary consideration for colleges. However, I don’t see a way around colleges seeing your original 9th & 10th grade transcripts when you apply.

When it comes time to calculate your overall GPA for certain scholarships, you’ll probably end up converting your 9th grade year plus your 10th-12th grade available grades to a GPA on a 4.0 scale, but that’s not something to worry about yet.

I should probably clarify: whether you have your original school send out official transcripts from your time there when you apply to colleges or whether Hotchkiss sends them out, colleges will want to see transcripts from all four years. If the original transcript is awful, it can be overcome by doing well at Hotchkiss, but I wouldn’t suggest ignoring it: you’ll want to offer colleges some kind of explanation if there’s a vast discrepancy between your grades at the two schools.

my grades were…decent…at public school. Probably quite low for accepted students. I’m SOOO glad it will not be included in my Hotchkiss GPA!!!

And knealon…repeating wasn’t actually a choice. Since my grades were so low it was required. But now that I’m doing it, I am happy because it will help my chances of playing my sport (tennis, duh!) in college. =)

Ah, that makes sense. They said I could repeat if I wanted, but I’d be taking the same Junior/Senior level classes anyway. I’m taking ap bio, ap us history, ap english, a philosophy class 1st/creative writing second, and I’m not sure about my math and spanish, although I should be in precalc and ap spanish literature. I play tennis as well!!! I haven’t played at all really except in-season at my prior boarding school due to being so busy with everything else. We should definitely play at hotchkiss, although you’re probably quite a bit better than I am! I played 2 singles for my last school. Also, I made a friend at camp this summer that goes to Hotchkiss and I could ask him if he’s interested in hitting with you. His name’s Robert Lightbourn, he’s on varsity, and he’s going to be a senior.

What if you took high school classes during middle school? Do they still include that in your final report thing? And what if your school doesn’t use A+?

i know! im exactly the same!!!
