Hotel/Airbnb recommendations at/near Gambier?

DS will be at Kenyon for their young writers’ workshop this summer, and we’re looking for hotels/airbnb at or near Gambier for 2 nights before we drop him off. Any recommendations? TIA!

The Kenyon Inn is the best place to stay. However, it can be difficult to get a room there. Kenyon does have lodging suggestions on their website. Hopefully, I’ve linked it here:

We stayed at various airbnbs in Gambier, Mount Vernon, and Howard while our daughter was at Kenyon (2020-24), and they were all excellent (I can’t see if the same places are available now, but there should be lots of options).

Thanks, @Mom934 ! We saw that page but wanted to get some first-hand experiences staying at any of those places. I appreciate it! Thanks for the rec on Kenyon Inn!

Apologies, and thanks for letting me know!

Columbus, Ohio is another option to consider. Gambier is tiny.

The Mount Vernon Grand Hotel is great, only 7 minutes from Kenyon, nice breakfast included and the rooms are spacious and comfortable. Mount Vernon also has a handful of good restaurants

When my D23 did the Kenyon Young Writers’ Workshop, she and I stayed at the Holiday Inn Express in Mount Vernon the night before dropoff. It was completely fine for the price, and we had a good salad and sandwich at North Main Cafe in the same town.

I’m both a parent and an alum so have stayed at a LOT of places in the area. As far as hotels go, we have stayed at The Kenyon Inn (which should be more available in summer), Mount Vernon Grand, Mount Vernon Inn and Holiday Inn Express. MVG was a little nicer than the others, but we usuallly stayed at MVI because it was often less expensive, and they had a nice breakfast included in the morning, where we could bring our student for a small cost. I also stayed at HIE a few times and it was often perfectly fine, though the rooms/experience tended to be a bit more hit or miss. When more friends or family are there, we usually stayed at Airbnbs. I have found reviews on the site to be generally accurate, but feel free to reach out if you would like specific recs.

Gambier is obviously most convenient, but Mount Vernon is easy to get to, near most of the shops and restaurants in the area. Howard is another option for both food and lodging, about 10 minutes east of Gambier, but that makes it farther from Mount Vernon.
