Is hotel management lucrative? By lucrative I mean over 100k. If not, does anyone know how high the pay is for a general manager at a luxury hotel?

Well over 100K

Managing the small number of large, urban hotels is lucrative, but i would counsel you against getting a degree in “hotel management” at Cornell or the handful of other schools that offer it. Opportunities are extremely limited. you’re much better off getting a general business degree.

what about an executive position at a luxury hotel then? Something in human resources, sales/marketing, finance, etc.

well over 100k? that’s very rare. most hospitality/hotel management majors start out making in the low to mid 40’s right after graduation. you’ll probably make more if you graduate from cornell, but it’s a very difficult business to get into and like zippo said, opportunities are extremely limited.

That was for GM at any large luxury hotel–not the local Motel 6.
