Hotel near Milford MI?

hi Michigan folks. I have to get to / find a hotel near Milford MI on short notice. I can google and find places, but I don’t know the area well enough to know what’s close, what’s not, what to avoid, etc. Any help appreciated. Thanks.

Milford is a bit in the middle of nowhere. I only know it as a drive by on the expressway, so I am not an expert, but the only hotel I’d stay at on the google list is The Baronette Renaissance Detroit-Novi Hotel, which I’ve heard good things about. It is right next to a nice shopping mall and I don’t think it is more than ten minutes from Milford.

Thanks. There appear to be a lot of choices in Novi and Wixom. Safe, decent areas? Just don’t want a truckstop!

Yes, Novi is safe, nice area, no problem. I’m not as familiar with Wixom, all I know is that it is a town built around an auto plant that closed. Definitely not as much to do as in Novi but no safety issues there either that I know of. I think you’d be happier in Novi even though it is a bit longer of a drive. Hopefully someone more familiar with Milford will post.

Appreciate your help, fredmar.

I stayed at the Baronette last spring and it was great! Highly recommend it.

I think you’d be most happy staying in Novi. Any hotel around 12 Oaks Mall area is perfectly safe and upscale. You’re going to be in Oakland Co., which is one of the wealthiest areas in the entire country.

From wikipedia:

“Metro Detroit’s suburbs are among the most affluent in the nation. Oakland County is the 4th wealthiest county in the United States among counties with more than one million people.”

Thank you. So … if I have some free time during this jaunt, how quickly can I / should I go to Ann Arbor, and what to see and do? I may have some time on a Saturday night to visit.

Anything in Novi (by the Novi Road exit) or Wixom should be fine. Wixom is closer to Milford. Novi has a big shopping mall. There are parts of Novi that are more distant from Milford. All are about 30-40 minutes from Ann Arbor.

How long of a drive from Novi to Milford? (Non-rush hour)

About 20-30 minutes. This is coming from someone who lives right next to Milford.

Pizzagirl, I’m glad you got some other advice. Although Actafool’s estimate of 20-30 minutes to get from Novi to Milford seems long to me, but I guess I drive fast. Ann Arbor is definitely close enough for a visit on a Saturday, just be careful if it is a football Saturday, because traffic can be daunting on those days. We try to arrive well before the game starts and leave well before it ends when we go on those days. Have a great trip!

Well, this is considering that I’m not on the freeway/expressway, and I’m using residential roads. Factor in all the stops, slow speed limits, etc. Sorry if that was a bit misleading.

There also are some newer hotels in Brighton off Grand River Ave. you might want to look at. It is about the same time drive wise from Milford as Novi and only about 20 minutes from Ann Arbor.
