<p>I’m kind of surprised that he told you to do that. I had no idea that the deans had any way of influancing admissions.</p>

<p>I dunno it seems kind of weird to me. If you were an outstanding student they wouldn’t ask you to do that and if you were a poor student I can’t see them asking you to do that. Obviously not every student can or should write to the dean though. I don’t really see how it could help though. Was your interviewer an alumni, prof, or adcom?</p>

<p>I don’t know. I probably wouldn’t, but who knows. There are a couple paragraphs for you to write about why Cornell and you’d assume that those would be good enough, but do whatever you think is best.</p>

<p>Unless you have something to say that you didn’t get a chance to say in the commonapp I don’t think it would help and it would just look stupid. That said, if you’ve done some new activity or joined some new organization and have realized now why you want to go to the Hotel School even more I think it’s a great idea to follow up. Otherwise simply reiterating the same mush again seems pointless.</p>

<p>Yea, actually you’re right. A letter would probably only really help a deferred ED student.</p>
<p>hey ppl, i had a talk with ppl with connections to the admin office. Really, the thing that will get u in is not a letter from you saying that you wanna go there cuz u r great. Instead, find an alum, have them meet with you, interview you, etc… i mean, a person who you have connections to, and have them write you a letter of rec saying that you will add the the environment at Penn.</p>
