Hotels in Durham

I was just wondering, if you’ve had any experience with the following hotels, can you give me any advice about them:

Holiday Inn Express
Comfort Inn at Medical Park
Quality Inn Suites
Staybridge Suites

My family and I were going to arrive a few days early before move-in day, and we wanted to find a hotel that was conveniently located and family friendly.

Thanks again.

I can vouch for the Staybridge having stayed there a couple of nights for a soccer tournament. Plenty of space, good room layout, well maintained facilities, very convenient location. Have had good luck with this chain for multi night stays in a couple of different cities.

I second the Staybridge Suites. I also have stayed at Staybridge Suites up and down the east coast and have found them to be clean, comfortable and generally in convenient locations.

I suggest you look at the reviews on Tripadvisor.com.

I had good luck with the Durham Skyland Inn which is 10 minutes from Duke University. They give you a handdrawn map with restaurants, gas stations, etc. that are on the route to the university. I found a restaurant I had never tried before on their suggestion that was great.

The Staybridge Suites by the airport does have some great reviews on TripAdvisor.

If you are going to stay for 5 nights check out the Oakwood Temporary Housing. For the price of a hotel you can usually obtain an apartment with kitchen and laundry facilities.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I will definitely look into trip advisor.
We are not sure how traffic willl be during the rush hour- my move in time is 8.30-10. My dad has to fly back in the afternoon. So we are worried about road delays etc.

Traffic near East campus will be slow ( Durham traffic overall is relatively ok, depending on what you are used to), but if you arrive at your scheduled time, it will work out, and kids in colored t-shirts will unload your car and take the stuff to your students room. I assume you mean Duke, right? You might want to post on the Duke forum too.

Yes, I am coming to duke. We are used to heavy texas traffic-but want to avoid it all the time!
