My daughter will be visiting Boston next Month and will be attending a concert at House of Blues. Can anyone suggest a hotel that is close by, not too expensive, but safe for two 18 year olds? Any Marriott Hotels close by? They may end up staying on the BU campus, but I want a solid back-up plan just in case.

I haven’t stayed there, but the Buckminster is very close…Marriott’s in Boston are not inexpensive , but if you aren’t bothered by a $20-25 cab fare, you can get some good prices at some of the Courtyards in the area. I have never arranged a room for two 18 yr olds though…not sure how that works

This hotel is near Symphony Station. We stayed there in Oct, and they sent us an email about winter specials under $100 (lots less than Parent Weekend season). It is simple, but rooms are large and clean.

It appears to be less than 2 miles away from House of Blues. Not sure if an easy T ride.

Colorado_mom, do you mean the Midtown? We have stayed there and it is decent and relatively inexpensive. But no, it would not be an easy T (subway) ride.

Yes, sorry I did meant Midtown. Looks like I goofed with my link paste-in.

T would make it easy to get to the Midtown. Not sure on taxi availability from there.

I was looking on the Priceline site and the Boston Hotel Buckminster is right at Kendall Square and extremely reasonable.

It sounds like there are a lot of good winter rates in Boston. That’s great - I’m hoping my Dad (in Poughkeepsie, NY) will have a chance to visit my son some weekend soon.

Here is a short list of hotels that near Berklee College of Music from the Berklee website. The list used to be longer, but I think they updated it and took out Midtown and some of the nearby bed-and-breakfasts.

Check with the hotels to make sure that 18 year olds can stay there by themselves. many hotels require you to be 21 to check in.

There is a Marriott at Copley which is near House of Blues. Not sure if it’s walking distance; maybe a mile or so away. Short cab ride. Nice hotel location - in the giant Copley mall. Would be a good choice, though probably relatively expensive.

Google shows Northeastern Univeisity is almost 2 miles few miles for House of Blues. Still I’ll add the NEU-hotel link in case it lists hotels in the right direction. (Or helps other parents visiting Boston.)

Thanks for all the suggestions. My husband has connections with Marriott, so he would be able to get them a room even though they are 18 yr olds. I just was unsure of which Marriotts were close to House of Blues. A couple more questions, how far is it from the airport to BU and could they easily get back to a hotel at the airport from the House of Blues? Is it safe to ride the T to and from the airport or should they be prepared to take cab after the concert? Thank you all for your help. This will be my daughter’s first trip to Boston by herself, other than when she went on her official visit. But then she was met at the airport by her coach and had current team members with her when she was out exploring. I am a little nervous about her being there on her own since her friend has only been there once before, also on an official visit.

I know, I know, time to cut the umbilical cord, haha.

Boston is small and most of the distances are reasonable. BU and the airport are about seven miles apart.

The T is safe! :)

The Milner Hotel, found via colorado_mom’s NU link, looks good. And the Buckminster, which has been mentioned twice before, is at Kenmore Square (very near the House of Blues), not Kendall Square.

Saw this on google maps near (a couple / few blocks) from House of Blues and right next to BU campus [Gryphon House front door](http://innboston.com/docs/common/main.html).

The T is safe. They can catch the T from the airport (blue line) and make a change at Government Station to the green line which will take them to the BU area. If taking the green line, they should be aware that they have to take the correct letter of the green line - B,C,D,E to get to their destination. BU east looks like it’s on the green line’s B train. Here’s a link [MBTA Subway 'The ‘T’ > Green Line Subway Information, Schedules, Stops, and Maps](<a href=“Schedules & Maps | MBTA”>Green Line | Subway | MBTA). Kenmore is on B,C and D of the green line according to the map. There are maps posted in all the T stations, too.

The Marriot at Copley is at the Copley green line stop - any of the lines B,C,D,E will take them to Copley - the routes split up a stop or two further away from downtown.

Thank you for all the helpful information. It looks like the girls will be staying at the Marriott Hotel at Logan. They will go straight from the airport to BU and then back to the hotel tot check in later in the afternoon before they go to the concert. The dads have decided that they should take a cab back to the hotel after the concert, given the late hour, but they will use the T to get around the rest of the time. They might as well get used to it, they are going to be living there in 7 months. Thanks again!

I would have them check their bags at the hotel before they go off to BU–they can leave them with the concierge, even if they don’t want to take the time to check-in. The trip from the airport to BU will involve some train changes from one line to another. Unless they’ve just got light backpacks or totes, I wouldn’t want to be carrying bags around on trains and to the concert. I think the T is safe at night, but given that they haven’t been in the city before, taking the cab back to the hotel is probably a good idea.

Thanks Bromfield, they will have carry-on bags, so that is a great suggestion. They will be arriving at Logan late morning and probably won’t be able to check-in, so leaving the bags with the concierge sounds like the a good idea.
