Hi all!

I am a international M.S. engineering student from Europe for 1-2 years. I need a great GPA while also a network and social life. I have to decide on some issues before tomorrow, 15 May 2010 (housing priority deadline).

I want to either live in a room with own bathroom in Daniels Hall or a studio/efficiency apartment in Goodwin & Green. Which one do you recommend; are the social activities in both equal?

Does it make sense to have a meal plan when having an apartment kitchen in Goodwin & Green? I don’t have a sense of if the meal plans are expensive compared to cooking on your own – any comments?

For Daniels Hall: When paying the $50+$150 application fee and deposit, I obligate myself to rent a room if assigned one – isn’t that correct? (that’s what I read from the online application, however, it seems as a big obligation by only a tiny mouse click on a single “accept” button). Thus I must apply for an apartment, have my application result for the apartment, and then later, if not assigned an apartment, I should apply to Daniels Hall – true?

I saw some private apartments online for approx. $400-500 per mo. near the Engineering Quad. This seems very low compared to Goodwin & Green ($700). Any warnings/comments for choosing such an apartment (large fees?).

Lastly, any comments on choosing a 12 mo. lease? Will campus be empty on Summer or how is it? Will you find time to travel during summer, or do most people (engineering) have enough studying/preparation for the summer.

Thanks for any comments and guidance! Sorry about the lengthy text :-)
