C25 got into RIT EA. Yay! They’re still waiting to hear back from one more college in early March. So they don’t want to decide until then, but they’re afraid they may miss some housing deadline for preferred dorm or floor or something.
Does anyone know if there is a “if you deposit by March 1 you get your choice” kind of thing, or is it all “May 1 is the actual deadline, there’s no interstitial preference dates”?
RIT gives dorm selection appointments in the order in which students pay their deposit. Dorm selection is spread out over maybe like 10 days. So the people that commit and deposit the earliest have the early appointments and those that wait until May 1st have the last appointments. All the dorms are very similar though. They’re all in the same area of Campus and pretty much all rooms are the same… there’s no super desirable dorm. And all freshmen are guaranteed housing so you won’t get shut out. So in other words no I don’t think you need to panic about getting your deposit in immediately. That said there is overflow housing that gets used when there is an extra large freshman class. It’s called the RIT Inn… it’s a working hotel a couple miles from campus and you have to drive or take a shuttle bus. It is more affordable but definitely less convenient and a lot of freshmen don’t want it because it’s a bit socially isolating to not be on campus itself. I wouldn’t wait until the very last minute to accept the offer either or there is a chance that you might end up stuck there for the first semester at least. But accepting mid March should be fine… My son accepted mid April and was OK…plenty of choices.
