Housing Deposit

I’m still trying to decide between two schools, (NEU and U Cincinnati). I got accepted into honors Chem E, EA, and if i decide on NEU i want to stay in West Village-F. The decision between the two schools is going to come down to financial aid info. Should I put in my housing deposit now to ensure WV-F in case I decide on NEU, or not? I’m afraid that WV-F will fill out before i put in my deposit if I wait too long. Thanks for any help!

We went to the EA welcome day last week and toured WVF. I think your chances seem to depend if your male or female. Our tour guide (a male) submitted his housing deposit during the last week before the deadline last year and ended up in WVF. On the other hand, he knew of several females that ended up in Kennedy because they submitted their deposit too late (sometime in April).

In any case my daughter (also accepted EA in Chem E honors) decided that WVF was very important to her and submitted the deposit back in December. There seems to be some confusion as to whether the deposit is refundable or not… depending on which office you call. Last I heard the admissions office has stated the housing deposit is refundable if they are notified by May 1st.

There is also considerable confusion over the cost for WVF next year. The housing application states WVF will be approximately $260 more per term than standard freshman housing, however, several people have posted with different figures, some as high as $1,000 per year more. You may want to look into this more yourself.

Thanks for the reply PG. I think i’m going to put down my deposit now and figure its no big deal if i do decide to go to NEU.

The earlier you cancel, the more money you get back. As I remember, If you withdraw before date x, you get your money back, a week later, 75% back, two weeks, 50%, etc. That’s what I remember from when I went there.
