Housing Deposit

Does anyone know if the housing deposit is refundable if there is no housing available to an incoming freshman at this point? We just heard that my son is accepted, and are just now getting to the housing deposit situation (a bit confusing on the website about status of deposit). Are there decent, close alternatives if on-campus housing is unavailable?

Call housing on Monday to see what the situation is for on-campus housing.
They have a lot more dorms available and a smaller FTIC class than in previous years so I would think you would still be able to find a spot.
If not, there are private dorms and Heritage Grove apartments which are almost like living on campus. There are also many apartment complexes and properties for rent that will have housing available near campus.

After you get an answer about housing, please post it here so others who were recently accepted will know - thanks.

CALL HOUSING TO VERIFY. However, they will be vague and won’t tell you that you will get a spot.

As of last year, if THEY could not honor the housing contract the deposit is refundable. (You can download and read the contract.) This past year, with the opening of Wildwood and Degraff (2 years ago class of 2011) combined with the 1000 cut in freshman slots (1 year ago class of 2012) there was on campus housing for all freshman who wanted housing. Even those accepted off the wait list in May/June had housing for summer and fall.

I suspect that, at this stage in the game, your housing number will get you a place on campus. There are private dorms within walking distance of campus that are on the FSU bus routes as well. While more kids are staying in state with the economy they way it is, FSU is still holding down the freshman class again.
