Housing/ Diabetic Dining ?s

My daughter is heading to Penn! She will be an athlete ( in other words, not a lot of time to waste). She is also type 1 diabetic. She would rather not room with another athlete.

Housing
She has narrowed housing down to three choices and is wondering what her #1 should be.
Quad (Fischer and Ware), Stouffer, and Kings English. Any feedback on what the order should be? She is hoping to have access to a kitchen and possibly a suite where there is a common room.

Food
With diabetes she has to eat low carb/glycemic. What dining hall will be best for her? This may impact where she wants to live. There used to be an athlete dining hall, I believe that is no longer an option.

It is a lottery for housing, right? Do your choices even matter!?!?

BTW - myself and husband both went to Penn so we have 25 yr old suggestions  We lived in Quad (it was OK, but when I was there it was a mix of classes, not sure a bunch of freshmen is the answer for her) and high rise (low floor - no elevator issues - but she does not want HR for first year).

Thanks for any help!

Housing is a lottery but your choices matter to some extent. If you apply to a residential program (I think it’s still possible for freshmen to do that but not sure what the due dates are this year) it increases your chances dramatically to get what you want. I’ve lived in the quad and am very happy with it but KCECH is pretty nice too. No first hand knowledge of Stouffer but my friends who lived there say it was nice but really quiet.

As far as a kitchen/suites/common room there aren’t many options for that for freshmen. As far as I know none of her choices have that option, but a kitchen isn’t too important freshman year when they force the meal plan on you anyway.

As for dining halls I have no idea what kind of accommodations they make for diabetics but check the Bon Appetite website. 1920s commons has the most different food but it usually isn’t the best; Hill has a pretty large spread too and isn’t that bad; Kings Court has very good food usually but doesn’t have much out. The quality is my opinion but the quantity is factual; if you’re looking for a dining hall with the most options then 1920s is the way to go. It really doesn’t matter at this point though because people in Hill go to commons and so on.
