Hey there,
I’ve been accepted for a year’s exchange from the University of Dublin to the University of California, starting this fall. I don’t know which campus yet (requested UCLA, Cal and UCSB), but I think it’s quite possible I’ll end up at UCLA, and I want to know where I stand viz. accommodation.

Basically, the situation is that I want to live on campus (for the social side of things). However, I’ll be 22 by the time I start, and have been living independently for a few years. So basically I’m a bit nervous about living in on-campus accommodation where everyone’s an 18 year old fresher who’s never lived away from home before, can’t drink legally etc. The alternative, obviously, is arranging my own accommodation off-campus (craigslist etc.), but I’m concerned that I won’t end up meeting anyone, and that’s important to me - I’m a pretty social person.

So, I was wondering if anyone could offer any advice? I skimmed the excellent sticky (http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-california-los-angeles/341377-read-before-starting-new-housing-thread.html), but couldn’t see this issue addressed.

Thanks,
Jo
