Housing for Internship in Redondo Beach, CA, This Summer

My 20 year old son just found out that he has a summer internship in Redondo Beach this summer at Northrop Grumman. What ideas does anyone have about housing?

Craigslist… Craigslist is always a given.

Congratulations to your son! He’s going to love Redondo Beach. The adjoining cities of Hermosa Beach, Torrance, and Manhattan Beach are all really nice, and full of young working students like your son. I would imagine there might be students needing to sublet for the summer. Check with Loyola Marymount U. Craigslist will have apartment shares. Good luck.

If he could find a room mate situation in Redondo, Hermosa or Torrance, that would be good, but he’ll definitely need a car.
Unfortunately, Northrup is not located in the easiest part of town to find housing. Manhattan Beach, to the west, is extremely expensive, and things immediately to the east of the Northrup Space Park are not very attractive for students. Do you know anyone in the area who can help you scope out a place for the summer? One bedroom apartments are pretty expensive. ( 1300.00+) It would be cheaper to find a two bedroom with a room mate.

how long will he be there? I think a sublet is best. Is Northrop providing any stipend for housing?

That is a very expensive area. If there is a college nearby, hopefully he can find a sublet.
another problem is that the area floods with tourists in the summer, driving up costs.

Will he have a car?

El Camino College is a few miles to the east, which could provide sublet or room mate opportunities. He also might be able to find a room in a home with a family. I’ve seen rooms to rent on Craigslist. A nice bedroom in a lovely home in the area would probably be less expensive, and less hassle, than living on his own, and provide some of the comforts of home. It’s possible that Northrup has information about these kinds of arrangements for short term employees and interns.

My son has an internship at Northrup this coming summer (2015) in Redondo Beach. I thought I would check in and see what type of housing you found in 2014. Thanks
