Housing for Summer Internship in Los Angeles 2016

My 20-year-old son, a college junior, has just been accepted for an internship for a film production company in Marina Del Rey. He will not have a car, so we’re hoping he could ride his bike, which he plans to take, and/or take public transportation. The nearest university is Loyola Marymount, although he will not be far from UCLA either. It looks as if UCLA used to offer housing for interns, but no longer. We are open to exploring sublets. Does anyone know if Airbnb is a good option? My son will need to be there for about six weeks, from early July to mid-August. Any assistance anyone could render will be much appreciated.

There should be a ton of sublets around Westwood (UCLA) since most apartments there only do 12 month leases. So you get a lot of temporary vacancies over the summer as the off-campus kids go home. Westwood is a short car drive but a decent (and probably slightly scary in LA traffic) bike ride from Marina Del Rey though.

My D who is working in Irvine managed to find an airbnb (she and 2 other interns will be sharing a 3 BR place). So it might be an option. Her schedule did not fit with the UC Irvine class schedule (she has started her internship, while UCI classes go till mid-June) so a sublet did not work out in her case.
