Housing Info Up!

^agreed.

there was a box of them outside in the hallway on every floor [in stern].

thechiiguin! I lived in Cedro my freshman year, and it was pretty great. A little crazy for me, but pretty tight knit, open, and full of activities. It was definitely possible to study in the dorm, but sometimes people wouldn’t respect quiet hours and would run around in the hallways having watergun fights at 2am =/ But hey, that was only once. At mealtime, I found it very easy to just sit with anyone from my dorm and start chatting. However, the dorms in Wilbur didn’t really mingle with each other; Cedro was tightly knit and so was Junipero, but they didn’t talk much to each other. My friend, Jessica, will be the Peer Health Educator in Cedro this coming year, and she’s a sweetheart =]. I hope that answers predictable’s question. If not, feel free to ask me more about Cedro.

400metres asked what the dorms are actually like. In general, Wilbur or Stern or Lag is a dorm complex. It consists of smaller buildings (such as Cedro or Junipero), holding maybe 70 or 80 or so people, all very close together; in some cases, the smaller buildings are connected by walkways or share a lounge. Therefore, when you get to Stanford and someone in a class asks where you live, you say Cedro, not Wilbur.

A few people asked about Stern; I wil be living in Serra next year (in a big upperclass single, yay!). I have visited it a number of times, and I don’t think the food is that bad… And Manzanita and Wilbur are not far away if you want to switch it up every now and then. Serra’s staff for next year seem kooky in a sweet kind of way. If other upperclassmen are anything like me, then we will be less inclined to do dorm-bonding activities but will always be more than willing to give advice, help out with anything, or hang out and get to know each other better.

Oh… excellent thing about being in Stern… is that late-nite dining is part of the Stern dining hall. This comes in very handy if you’re up late and getting hungry… dinner pretty much everywhere ends at 7:15pm; I get hungry again by 9 or 10 and usually need something to eat.

Stern also has a very good location; it is the closest dorm to the center of campus, I believe. This also makes it further away from the Marguerite stops on Campus Drive, but oh well =]

Dinner finished at 7:15! Man that’s early, they should make it at least 9 or something!

most dinner in dining halls end at 8pm. at least in lag and stern they did last year.

Hmm. In Wilbur and Manzanita they ended at 7:15. If you really want the details (seems kind of nitpicky =p) http://www.stanford.edu/dept/hds/dining/index.htm</a> Branner ends at 6:30  even worse!

damn. seriously, before i came to stanford i’d have dinner at like 8 or 9. and so when i got to campus i’d eat at like 6 and then again at late night at like 11.

not so healthy.

don’t people say it’s good to have more meals or snacks? (as long as they are each smaller than they would be if you were eating only 3 meals a day) haha

I usually eat at 5 and then at 10 or 11. I guess I’m going to have to change my eating pattern. Where can you get food if the dining halls are closed?

As I mentioned for Stern, they have Late Nite dining with things from smoothies to subs to chicken wings to candy bars. Lag Dining also has late nite dining, and I hear theirs is better but I’ve never actually been to it. These dining places are typically open from like 8:30pm-2am; check that link above for precise details.

The CoHo is also open late… till 11? 1? Their fall schedule isn’t up yet.

I highly recommend having a fridge and microwave so you can just make quick snacks yourself.

Thanks celestial :)

Is Late Nite dining included in the meal plans, i.e. if I take a 19 meal/week plan, can I apply one of these meals towards Late Nite? Or is it only Cardinal $s?

^I don’t think so. I’m pretty sure they only take cardinal $s and regular $$$

Hey celestial, I got placed in Serra as a freshman…did you choose Serra of your own accord? Was it because upperclassmen get singles?

I went to the Lakeside Late-Night during Admit Weekend and it was pretty good. Definitely teen-friendly food, not healthy food.

you can only use cardinal dollars, not an actual meal, at late nite. and yeah, the food is def not healthy.

super,

EVERYBODY wanted those singles in serra, well, a lot of people did. so basically anyone in a single WANTS to be in a single. other than the singles, most upperclassmen def try to avoid wilbur and stern.

LoL yea, my housing draw number was 412 (the lower the better) so I managed to get a single room in Serra. As much as I like to hang out, I value privacy =] So I’ll meet you soon, jimmyeatworld.

Along the lines of late nite, I recommend getting NOT the 19 meal per week plan. You have no flexibility to go to late night or the coho or linx or all those other good places. (I highly recommend Linx at the Clark Center; healthier food and good flavors.)

celest what’s the range in the draw numbers (1-3000??)

^i believe it’s just 1-3000.

you have 2 preferred years, which means you’ll get a number from 1-2000, and then the other year is unpreferred, so 2000-3000.

but in reality they don’t assign every single cumber from 1-3000. there are random numbers left “open” just b/c of the program they use or whatever.

412 is good! how much did you get current?

oh don’t even get me friggin started on the draw number i got.

i’m not bitter…noooo. haha.
