S25 has expressed an interest in Santa Clara. It seems like a good fit for him, interested in business, Catholic, from the Portland area.
My concern is that with only two years of on campus housing, where do the students live for their 3rd and 4th years? The bay area is so pricey, it seems like it would be really unaffordable. We eliminated USD in part because we can’t afford a beach house
Students share houses/apartments near campus. Expect to pay at least $1500 per month for a bedroom in a shared house. While my kid is not at SCU, she is living in the South Bay this summer and paying that for her sublet (one bedroom in a 3 bedroom house), shared kitchen, LR/DR/bath/etc.
My kid is a Santa Clara grad who lived off campus the last two years…like most of her friends. There is a lot of rental housing for students very near the campus. My kid lived on a cul de sac that was right across the street from the back entrance to the school. It had a bunch of houses rented to students. Hers was 7 kids in a 4 bedroom big house with plenty of space.
Santa Clara student rentals are not nearly as costly as those in San Francisco and vicinity….if that’s what you are thinking.
When our kid was there, her housing costs were about the same as if she had lived on campus…including the budget for food.
And there is some on campus housing for upper classmen.
Parent of a current SCU student telling you not to worry! For those upperclassmen who wish to remain on campus, the school is generally able to accommodate. My child chose to live off-campus in a house that is literally steps from the edge of campus; the monthly budget is a bit smaller than during the on-campus years.
