Yesterday I received a letter saying that my application for housing was late. I know that it was definitely in the mail before the deadline, but the postmark is two days later…what do I do…I called and they said they can put me on a waitlist, but I don’t think I deserve that…?

Was it the application or the $200 housing deposit? Did you mail it from you home mail box or the public mail box on the street?

yes it was the $200 and the signature sheet

i mailed it from the drop box at the main post office.

but i filled out the actual application online…so i guess the answer to your question is it was the $200 housing deposit

Damn, I’m sorry. Unless you can prove that the postmark date is incorrect then its almost impossible to change your priority date back. I would call and ask if you can get a photocopy of the envelope that you sent it in, so you are sure it says the date they claim. It happened to me 3 years ago. I had a priority date in oct of the previous year and sent the $200 1 day late and they changed my priority date to that date that they recieved my $200. I thought it was totally unfair too.

yeah they sent me the envelope copy and it says the 17th…now i’m on the waiting list…do you know if people on the waitlist usually get housing?

My daughter was on the waiting list last year as an incoming freshman. She didn’t get housing in the fall semester, but got a great room in the spring term. Unfortunately, we had to pay for an off-campus room all year and the dorm the second semester. She had to go into the dorm for the spring semester in order to get housing as a sophomore. We found it very expensive and frustrating. She’s all set with on campus housing for her sophomore year and got an awesome dorm (her first choice). Maybe you’ll be lucky though and get off the waiting list.
