Yes, I just read that the Office of Admissions is moving into the U Square building in January 2011.

Office Move
After more than a decade in the Red Gym, the Office of Admissions is moving. In January 2011, well relocate to the University Square complex. University Square is a 1.1 million-square-foot development in the center of campus, comprised of retail space, residential apartments, and a 12-story university tower. This tower is home to University Health Services and the Student Activities Center, as well as the Offices of the Registrar, Bursar, and Financial Aid. The admissions office will move into new space at the northwest intersection of Johnson and Lake Streets.

Why not make the Red Gym another student athletic center? Aerobic equipment, light weights and great rooms for pilates, yoga, and martial arts would be a great way to provide healthy alternatives to students in all corners of the campus.

The return to its originally intended use makes sense to me.

My dad reports that his physical education course in the Red Gym in the early 1950s included swimming lessons – and swim suits were expressly prohibited!
