How about the academic quality of Boston College? Please help!

Hi, guys! I am admitted to Carroll School of Management of Boston College and I paid deposit a few days ago. Currently i am busy browsing the website about the academic quality and reputation of Boston College. To my disappointment, some people say that the academic quality of BC doesn't match its ranking and BC is kind of a sports school. What's more, some of the professors are not as good as expected. Actually, there are relatively fewer information about BC's academic things in the Internet. I am an international student, so I would like know how its ACADEMIC reputation in US (NOT SPORTS REPUTATION!). THANKS TO EVERYONE HERE!!

BC's management school is fine, but it depends on your other options.

It's grad program ranked #34 by USNews.

It's undergrad program is ranked #16 by Bloomberg/Business Week. BC was #9 last year, but note that the BW rankings have a tendency to move year-over-year, so such a "drop" is not unusual.

THANKS! I don't know why so many people criticize its academic quality! I think i have made a good choice and i just what to learn more about it !

Most undergrad biz is regional. Wharton is the top school nationally. Other schools w are really strong in their backyards.

^ Not really. There are many top national undergraduate business programs like MIT Sloan, Berkeley Haas, UMich (forgot what the program is called), NYU Stern, Georgetown McDonough and UVA McIntyre.
BC is probably ranked right after these colleges.

ROSS for UMich i guess! Any other suggestions?

My D is currently a junior in CSOM majoring in Accounting and Information Systems. She could not be happier with the overall academic experience at BC, from the high quality professors, to the summer intern opportunities, to the TA position that was offered in the Fall.

THANKS jshain! I hope i could have the same experience as your D's!

BC is a very good and respected school, dude. The only people who will thumbs down on BC are those next door Harvard guys. But you made a good choice. Congratz!

Thank you txboy13! I think what you said is true!

Any other suggestions and viewpoints?

anything else?

US News, for what it's worth, rates over 1,400 colleges and generates reputation rankings on the most selective ones. Their rating of BC's reputation is about the 70th-highest in America, so that would put BC's reputation among the top 5% of U.S. colleges and universities. That sounds about right.

Has anyone experienced the academic life in BC?

^"US News, for what it's worth, rates over 1,400 colleges and generates reputation rankings on the most selective ones. Their rating of BC's reputation is about the 70th-highest in America"

But ACADEMICALLY, USNWR ranks it much higher than that, somewhere around 35th (I don't have the most current ranking, and I didn't look it up).

^^^ True - I was combining the reputation ratings of the national universities and the LACs categories to come up with around 70th.

Yfh - You may want to post on the Boston College board (under the link "Alphabetical List of Colleges") to get responses from current BC students.

Thanks a lot!

My close friend attends BC and is graduating at the end of this semester from the business program and honors college. He has loved it in every way, studied abroad in Australia, and has not a single regret about going to BC and attending its business program.

Thanks Lauren! Is he the student of CSOM like me?

BC is actually currently ranked 31st among national universities. its reputation is very strong to put it lightly.
