So I am currently halfway through my soph. year of high school. My goal is to attend a competitive school, and I was wondering if I could get some feedback as to what I should change/ keep up to do so?
My GPA is 3.8 weighted
My projected ACT score from the pre ACT is 32
EC’s; Spanish club, Astronomy club, Soccer team, Basketball team, Track (Varsity as a freshman), and robotics team director.
Awards/ Accomplishments: I have a few of my poems and stories that I have written published, Merit award, and a bunch of other stuff that I’m forgetting lol
Side notes: Both my parents were born in Africa (Morocco and Ghana), I’m Black, my dad is the dean of a local college, I live in Wisconsin
Interests: I want to eventually become a dentist.
Schools I’m looking at: I’m interested in; Uni of Minnesota, Wisconsin-Madison, USC, UCLA, Michigan, Arizona U, Berkley, Miami U, etc…
Are these reasonable? Anything drastic I need to do before application year?
Any input welcome, Thanks!
You seem to be on track for most of the schools you mentioned, but your gpa seems a bit low (at least for a weighted), you have a great hook for yourself. You have another year, so if you could work on improving your ACT to a 33+, that would help (and if you are on track for a 32, then you should have no problem getting that to at least a 33 within a year). EC’s are a bit generic in my opinion, and you lack decent leadership. Are those poems and stories self-published or actually published through an agency? Big difference. Self-published anything isn’t viewed as impressive. Overall, I think you have a lot of reaches, but you have time to improve your gpa and test scores, so you’re not in awful shape. At this rate, you will get into at least 1 of the schools you listed.
Thanks jarett211!
Retake your ACT and raise GPA a bit. You should reach higher
