How am I looking?

Hey everyone, It’s a little early, but I am looking to apply to top schools like Harvard, Yale, Duke, etc. Let me know what you think. I am a Sophomore.

STATS-------

GPA - (W) 4.8 (UW) 4.0

ACT - 33 (Might retake)

Rank- Top 5%

APs - 4’s and 5’s

White/Male/Middle Class

EC’s---------

1st Chair Trumpet in Marching Band & Trumpet Captain

Recipient of Presidential Volunteer Service Award - Young Adult division (250+ service hours)

Senior Patrol Leader in Boy Scouts (Soon to be Eagle) and the Order of the Arrow member

Published Contributor for The News Hub (An international news organization set in the UK)

Volunteer with teachers at my old school and tutor handicapped kids

1st Chair Lead Pan player in school steel drum band

SUMMER EC’s -------------

Interned with the Governor of NC for a week

Shadowed a local District Court Judge for 2 weeks

Plan to intern with a local Anesthesiologist next Summer

I feel like my Rank and AP Scores are kind of subpar for the schools I am looking at but I have a year or two so I have time.

If you have any suggestions, please leave a comment!

Thanks

I dont think AP scores help/hurt with college admissions, as they are only used for college class credit. You have a lot of EC’s and accomplishments, but still, top tier colleges are nearly impossible to get in, even if you have perfect grades/test scores.

It would be worth re-taking the ACT to bump it up to at least 34/35. ECs are ok but wouldn’t say top-tier caliber at the moment. Can always push for more leadership, showing initiative (ex. organizing a service activity) etc.
