How are AP credits accepted when you register for courses?

<p>I’m registering for classes right now, and want to know how 4s and 5s on AP exams are accepted.</p>

<p>I have 4s or 5s in quite a few AP tests, so can I simply not take the introductory level courses (e.g. Intro to Chem 1) in those areas? How does the registrar know that I have AP credit? Is there some kind of form I need to fill out?</p>

<p>Also, I’ve heard it’s not good to use AP credits to skip out of courses important to a certain major (e.g. Intro to Bio for a bio major)…but can I use my 5 on Calc BC to say, not take Calc I&II if I’m planning to major in Chem or Bio?</p>

<p>the system doesn’t recognized AP credits, and I think its doesn’t even recognize pre-requisites, so you can freely take any class that you feel hat you are ready for (aka. you have AP scores for).</p>

<p>Keep in mind that your adviser will review your selection so don’t worry too much.</p>

<p>Also if you have a 5 on Calc BC, I would assume that your Calc I and II skills are very good–so go ahead and take Calc II, or do what I’m doing and take the HONORS level math classes–they offer 3 HONORS math classes:</p>

<p>Honors Single Variable Calculus (basically cal I and II with proofs accelerated in 1 semester)
Honors Multi Variable Calculus (honors Calc iii with proofs)
Honors Linear Algebra (I’m taking this one :)) </p>

<p>I think that’s one of the best things about Hopkins is that if you want to go in and totally try killer hard classes, no problem even if you’re a first year student! I think that’s cool - that way you’re not dinking around like you were in high school all over again.</p>

<p>vader1990: Be warned. VERY warned. Steven Zucker is teach Lin Alg. I have a friend that liked him, but he is widely considered the worst professor in the department, since he doesn’t actually teach (you read correctly).</p>

<p>Honors Multivariable will be taught by Wilkin this semester, who taught me in Honors Linear Algebra last semester. He’s good, but might make his tests tricky. Still easier than Zucker, though.</p>

<p>I liked Zucker. If you’re not self-motivated to learn the material though, avoid.</p>

<p>I would completely agree with what has been said about Steven Zucker. I had him first semester freshman year for Linear Algebra…I taught myself the entire semester!!</p>

<p>I would do one of two things for lectures: (1) Go to the library and sit down and takes notes from the section he was “going over” in lecture or (2) go to lecture and listen to my iPod and take notes from teh section that he was “going over.” I defintely think that this approach was better than sitting through his lectures (which I tried for he first two weeks and just couldn’t do it) and trying to take notes while listening to him.</p>

<p>But I did think that zucker’s midterms and final were very fair (I also got and A- in the course, so that could be why…)</p>
