Let’s say that for me, personally, the visit would have absolutely no effect on my view of the university. Is it still worth doing the visit to suck up?

It depends on the college, some colleges like students to show interest. Others, particularly the very selective schools don’t track interest. However, if the visit means extensive travel, I doubt it is worth it for the amount of “sucking up” the visit would accomplish.

How do you know a visit would not influence your view of the school? What makes you so certain?

I’ve done a college visit before in my state. Our guide spoke of trite things like the greek community, the food, the happy students, how diverse they are, etc. I only care about the rigor of the college. I’d even live in a prison-like college in a smog-filled city if it had the most rigorous education.
