How are my chances at Stanford?

<p>I am curious about my chances of getting into Stanford.
I am a junior in Wisconsin and am strong in math.</p>

<p>Current Schedule and 1st Semester Grades-
Calculus And Analytical Geometry III (at local college)- A
AP American Studies- History-A CA-A
German IV- A
AP Physics- A
Honors Band- A
Personal Financial Management- A (required course)
Currently Taking Differential Equations at the local college</p>

<p>I have a UWGPA of 3.9 and an ACT of 35 (36 Math, 36 English, 36 Science, 30 Reading)</p>

<p>I have won the MAA at my school the last two years and advanced in the AMC 12 last year.</p>

<p>I have taken 4 AP Classes and many Honor classes as well as my two college classes. My schedule is as difficult as my school allows.</p>

<p>I am thinking about doing the National Youth Leadership Forum for Medicine. I was wondering if that would help.</p>

<p>I am interested in biomedical engineering, planning on going to med school.</p>

<p>Looks good. I am not sure how invloved you are in your ECs, but a couple of leadership positions would look nice. Also, you might consider taking some advanced math courses through Stanford’s EPGY program. If you get a good grade in the course, it looks great. I do not know how impressive the NYLFM looks…My understanding is that many students are invited every year, so maybe it is not that impressive? Definitely try to get involved in some form of research this summer (preferably college-level). Do well on SATs and good luck!</p>

<p>Brad, I think you have a relatively good chance of getting in. I’d hope so, at least, because our stats are very similar. It’s hard to judge from just the information given, but I think your biggest weakness is your extracurriculars. I don’t really see anything that stands out as particularly significant. It would probably be helpful to know more about what you’ve done with your instrument, how good you are at golf, and if you’ve had any significant leadership positions in any of the clubs you listed. I think you should try to find some extracurricular that you really, really enjoy, and do whatever you can with it. If you keep up what you’re doing, you should have a good shot, but this far in advance a good shot could mean quite a variety of things.</p>

It started end of last year, so you’ll have to participate as a senior.</p>

<p>I’m really sorry to tell you, but take it from someone with experience: with those stats, your chances at Stanford are really slim…</p>

<p>NYLF/Med won’t help you on your application, if you know what I mean, but it will give you a great experience (one that maybe you could use on the essay portion, maybe?) and definitely help you make sure that you want to go into med.</p>

<p>That’s exactly right. Before, I thought I, along with everyone else on CC would get into Stanford.
Thus, when I didn’t get in, I turned into a sourpuss that shoots down every single chances post.
Think of this: Stanford has a 13% acceptance rate. Chances are, you’re not going to make it.
I’ve been throwing this out there waaay before I got rejected. </p>

<p>Ashveer is pretty well known for his consistently sarcastic responses to chances threads. It’s a kind of wry humor, but nothing you should take personally. I personally think it’s kind of clever.</p>

<p>My friend has nearly the same stats as me except he is one year behind and has a slightly lower gpa…he got into stanford and will be going there next year</p>

<p>Our valedictoiran has better stats than you including a 4.7 GPA a pending IB diploma, and a pending patent from summer research, and he got rejected. So relax. Just try to hollow out your soul as best you can. It makes rejection easier, and acceptance that much better. </p>

<p>well…apparently my friend had what stanford wanted…it is a shame your valedictorian didnt get in but that has nothing to do with me…as u know stanford takes an in depth look at their applicants, every applicant is different…so after seeing my friend get in over ur valedictorian ill just keep working and do my best to get in</p>
