I know that Stanford is very famous for its athletic prorgams, but it’s also a very academically focused school, so does the athletic feel rub onto the more nerdy/academic student circles or not at all?

^Theoretically the athletes are at least somewhat academic/nerdy…I mean, it’s Stanford.

Is it normal for most academically-oriented students not to go to the team’s sports games (except maybe one per year) or not care about sports?

Stanford has a good athletic culture that doesn’t rise above everything else. A lot of people here are athletes in some form, varsity or just club/IM, and even those who don’t play a sport go to the gym or go for a jog around campus often. Football is really big this year, but that might just be because we’re a top 10 team right now. For other sports games, students usually go to support their friends that are on the team. However, people don’t look down on you for not going to football games or for not being fit. The athletic culture is definitely here if you want it, but it doesn’t dominate life here at Stanford.

Is there any sort of athletic requirement like at MIT? Though I guess everyone does athletics in some form by biking on the campus…

^what kind of requirement does mit have?

I think I heard that they had a swim test, though I’m not an expert on MIT so don’t take my word for it. Do you think there’s a very nerdy, tech-y culture and an athletic culture that rarely interact?
