is there any way to combat grade deflation? that would definitely help me out. my english teacher is an infamously hard grader.

Hi RBase07
Well aren’t you refreshing. I totally agree, unless an Ivy is your dream B’s are fine. In NY a B as far as I know=80-85 avg. What is wrong with that? All of you who get straight A’s just for one moment stop assuming any less of an A is because a kid is lazy or dumb. Come on guys the world has a place for everyone.

Having straight A’s doesn’t mean that person is smarter than everybody that doens’t have straight As. I know kids that got straight As that struggle in college

Often having straight A means that the student has figured out what to write to please a teacher. I know other kids with great imaginations and vision who get Bs, while some kids that get A regurgitate what the teacher wants to see.

Boy do you make sense. I have a straight A child and a child who’s college transcript may not be too impressive but I can tell you this much, she is hardworking, smart and well-rounded. Her 3.6GPA, B+ and top third ranking may not be all that, but she has earned acceptance to 3 colleges so far , none of which are IVY but that’ s not who she is. Oh and by the way, she had many A’s through her high school career she just can’t do math.

See article about Middlebury on parent’s board. A reporter goes throught the admissions process with the adcom. B’s kill there.

B’s in my school are 80-89. I have an 89.5 average UW and most would call that a 3.0, but I don’t see the difference between an 89.5 and a 90 that would be worth a 1 point difference (4.0).

I think my average is quite good, especially my 101.5 weighted…

An 89.5 avg is not what I understand to be a 3.0 it’s more like a 3.9 where I am from

anything below 86 is a B…i wonder if ranking top 10% will offset my many Bs in english and humanities…

93-86 is considered a B at my school. I don’t think Bs are the end of the world…For some classes, I am ecstatic to make a B considering the rigor of my course load.

btw…top 10% out of 500 graduating students…
